Itinerary
Hobart to Tasmania’s East Coast
The day starts with pick up from central Hobart hotels and backpacker hostels. The tour heads east from Hobart and follows the coastline, passing through the seaside towns of Orford and Swansea as the group travels north toward Freycinet National Park.
Freycinet Marine Farm stop
After entering the Freycinet Peninsula, the group stops at the Freycinet Marine Farm. Guests who want to can purchase local oysters sourced from the surrounding waters before continuing to the walking trail.
Wineglass Bay Lookout walk
The hike begins on the Wineglass Bay track. Guests can walk with the guide for commentary and trail information, or walk at their own pace. The climb to the Wineglass Bay Lookout usually takes about 45 minutes. At the lookout, there is time to take in the view over Wineglass Bay.
Down to Wineglass Bay Beach
From the lookout, the track continues down to Wineglass Bay Beach. This section is steep in parts. Once at the beach, guests can walk along the sand and spend time exploring the shoreline.
Beach time and optional walk to the southern end
The return hike (lookout and beach) is 6 km and usually takes around 2.5 hours of walking time. The tour typically allows around 3.5 to 4 hours in the area, which can include time for lunch, time on the beach, and an optional 20-minute walk toward the southern end of Wineglass Bay Beach for views of The Hazards mountains. In warmer months, there may be time for a swim.
Return hike to the trailhead
The return route climbs back up from the beach to the Wineglass Bay Lookout, then continues back down to the start of the trail. The guide meets the group at the trailhead for the drive back to Hobart.
Spiky Bridge and East Coast refresh stop
On the way back, there is a stop at Spiky Bridge, a convict-built landmark. The tour also stops at an East Coast cafe for a break, with the option to purchase refreshments and local Tasmanian hand crafted ice cream.
Return to Hobart
Drop off is back to Hobart city accommodation, usually around 6:00pm to 6:30pm. Airport drop offs are available only by prior arrangement at the time of booking.

This is an active day with a 6 km return hike that includes uphill and steep sections. A suitable level of general health and fitness is required.

Guests are briefed on Minimal Impact Bushwalking and Leave No Trace practices before entering National Parks. Wildlife is viewed from appropriate distances and activities stay on formed tracks and boardwalks.
